You know you have to build it first don't you?

Provided you have put the character sequence AT+GCI=7E in the modem
initialization sequence the Country Setting will be correct. Some references
suggest that you can test it on some modems with AT+GCI=?
I'd suggest you run up minicom and try it out.

Not "must", but "distinctly preferable", because if you install the package
from a .deb file it's presence will be recorded in the packages database in
your computer, whereas if you just plonk in a package built from some .tar.
{gz,bz2} file it won't be in the database. Thus it is really most important
either to use the package from your distribution if you possibly can, or to
build the .deb file from the .tar.{gz,bz2} file and install using the .deb
file you have just created. Many packages offer an option for you to do this.

If you look in this directory:-

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/

you might ( the host is offline at this very moment. Maybe it rests during the
Jewish Sabbath, or perhaps it's "bought it" at the hands of the Hezbollah.
goodness knows. ) find a Ubuntu directory in which there are some .deb files
for the ltmodem. You might care to try one out.

Other members might care to comment on the idea of putting a Ubuntu .deb file
into a Mepis computer.
