I don't have one but I know it works with linux. There are several
programs like amaroK and gtkpod that have built in support.

They are basically a usb drive too, but I don't think you can just dump
mp3's onto it, as it has some sort of internal database. I'm not clear
on this aspect.

There are also alternative OSes for the ipod, you flash it or somehing
and then it'll play other media like ogg etc.

Of course if you want a real ipod as opposed to a nano etc, you'll pay
way over $100-200
