Ignore Windows. I assert that you need no disk for Linux. Plug modem into serial port (where your radio is currently plugged in) and phone line and power (of course). Boot Linux Login as Alan Start kppp Click Setup Click the Devices tab You need to enter the name of the port that the modem is connected to. For you it is /dev/ttyS0 (that's a zero). That's the tricky part (without it, you would not be talking to the external modem). The rest should be trivial for you now that you know kppp intimately... The kppp help file is a bit sparse, but will probably help. If not, ask again. Good luck. Sorry I can't add more detail, but it's late and I am off to bed, plus I don't have kppp here to reference.
