Agreed.

Like Alan, I have a dialup account with IHUG and an external Dynalink
modem (in my case, a V1456VQE-R, which works brilliantly).

Relevant stuff from pppconfig:

  Number: 087300777
  Com:   /dev/ttyS0
  Authentication method: PAP

pppconfig being "the Debian way" to set up a dialup account on a Debian
box.
