David is going to come here to 2/59 Peverel Street at 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

We need to get his dial up modem working so that we can connect him for future remote support.

I intend to connect him to my network and set up ssh so anyone else wanting to help can ssh in to work on the problem.

Seems that an IRC channel set up would also be useful. I leave that for someone else to consider.

Cheers Don

I called David,

He's busy today.

He does come into Riccarton to do shopping so I've offered him to drop over and we'll sort it out.

With respect to ubuntu, etc, distros,...

I'm going to keep running MDV2007 as I've just introduced one of my best mates to it as it came out on an APC mag. So there will be some consistency there.

I've got a stack of monitors here at present so we'll be able to test if this is causing an issue.

I've given David my phone number and invited him to call me back when ready.

TICKET: On hold ;p

Cheers Don

Guess this one's mine as I'm running mdv2007?

Maybe.. It's complex for people to support lots of distros, and urging people onto the more-used ones is but one solution for that.

Someone Mandriva-aware would be best to pick it up,..

I don't know anything much about x thou

Shouldn't really need to anymore. 'It just works' for video mostly these days..

I think he's out of town a bit.

Rik normally provides site visits and is closer I think, no comment from Rik?

I can do it. I'd be getting him onto Ubuntu (to help both him & me) at the drop of a hat tho. Don't want to toe-tread, however..

Do we know if the guy is expecting to at least pay petrol or is he willing to bring his machine into town?

I'm happy to give him a call as well, does he work during the day?

Try him, as per initial post:

I have just been on the phone to David Jarman 03 322 9811 (ChCh). He is a Mandriva user who has run into problems with 2007 (2006 was okay).

David needs face to face help.

Phil.

Find out which area pls.

cheers
