Hi all, I'm watching this thread with interest. I used to have Telstra Cable, and it was great! A few problems of course, but not many in the 4 years I was a customer. I got Xtra for my mum because Telstra didn't have cables on her street, plus of course the phone line comes from Telecom, so why not take the easy route? (Don't answer that!).
Here in Japan I have ordered ADSL. I could have had fibre, but I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of filling in the (Japanese) form and getting permission from the landlord to install the fibre into the apartment. ADSL of course is just a box that plugs into the phone line. I have ordered the 50Mbps service, and I am about 1km from the exchange so I might actually achieve that speed occasionally. Downside? All the forms are in Japanese. There are n binary choices at every stage of the application. It takes at least 2 weeks to bring the phone line up, then a further week to add ADSL. I've been here nearly a month and I just managed to submit the application. In three weeks I'll be online if I'm lucky. At the moment I am checking email at work via webmail. Best wishes, Andrew
