Ok, so they type in their town, and you look it up. What if they make a
spelling mistake?
Gets treated as a new town and goes to all users the first time it
happens. How often can't you spell your own town?
I'm sure we'll have to teach it chc, chch, christchurch, etc.
And these clients can receive email from other people? If not, why not.
If yes, why not from you?

I also want to be able to generate stats.
Count how many times the script is executed, or trawl the log of sent
messages and build up stats from there.
Or write a quick query on the db... a db query is quicker for me.
There was pricing on the example link you sent, but I didn't look at the
current site.
Yip, that's right. They decided to add pricing this time. Wonder if
it will slow down the emails?

We are not putting pricing on for rentals.
"We"?
We = the client/BOTM
This is the single most frustrating thing I find about websites.
Put the price on!! Why not? "Because our competitors will know what we
charge and underbid us" or some equally lame excuse.
No, "We have different prices around the country, we decided not to put
rental prices on the site"... Ok :)
Sorry Don, this is not directed at you, but your client is deluded if he
thinks this is going to work. The best thing your client could do is ask
his customers what they want to see, or how the site would work best for
them.
The site has been working well with no pricing.
Cheers Don
