:) Please feel free to offer your charge out rates when I'm offering to pay for services... it's not so often that I blow the dust of my wallet!

That's your view.

It's also a view held by quite a number of people on the NZNog list.

I asked for some help (on the NZNog List) and most people gave me a lecture about why I should not be using Xtra.

If people read the NZNog archive they'll see that "Don't use Xtra" has become the common response to anyone asking for help with Xtra email.

Fixing your mail configuration would probably be a simpler and more correct solution.

I'm not sure how anyone would propose to actually 'fix' the 'problem'.

The 'problem' was that mail was ending up in the Xtra customers 'spam folder'.

I was trying to use the 'forward' feature on my DTC[1] mail set up.

This was ok to most ISPs but messages got caught in the Yahoo system.

The solution was to get franchise's using Xtra to use a POP or IMAP client or our own web mail (Squirel) to clear the mail rather than use the forward - DON'T USE XTRA.

Like I said, my mail server, which is next to me on the end of an ADSL line,
has no ( known! ) problems sending and receiving emails to/from all domains
that I've tried. xtra is fine, that's for certain. The most important part (
unfortunately snipped from the email I'm replying to ) is that you route your
outgoing emails through the smart server provided by your service provider ( in
the case of sp's like godaddy, just finding it is a mammoth task! ); and, less
important, finding a SP that has a good reputation on managing spammers - using
RBL services like spamhaus is a good resource for this. It's not a perfect
solution... as a company we ( as in my primary contract ) get blacklisted by
the agressive RBLs like sorbs about once a year, and we sell anti-spam
solutions!!!

My mail server (sitting on the end of my TC cable connection, 2 meters from me) also has no problems sending mail directly to Xtra.

I did find out from Ted Greenfield (Xtra project manager for email) that our SG server had been blocked for apparently sending to much spam to Yahoo.

See: http://www.gplhost.com/hosting-shared.html

Check out the standard pricing. At those prices you're going to get problems with spammers just buying accounts then using them to send spam.

After a lot of investigation, I eventually found out that Tusker is the
company...

Ya, sorry... "Tusker" is the nick name for Damien Mascord. see tusker.org

He's a really keen OSS coder and has been helping me with projects and hosting for years now. If I can put my business his way I do.

[1] DTC is an OSS a bit like cPannel.
