I think what's below is pretty much the official final word on the
"when" part of the release.

The "what's it like" is the upgrade went exceptionally smoothly.

Most major "gotcha" so far is I had trained xine to expect my dvd reader at 
/dev/hdd, that is now /dev/scd1

Apart from that it's slicker, nicer, less buggy.

The kids got a wide range of upgrades to their games, Mom& Dad got firefox 2.0 
b3

I had been keeping off the firefox 3 series as I had grown to rely on
a number of addons that weren't supporting 3.0

Now I find all the ones that matter (noscript, ad block plus, ....)
have caught up, or firefox has grown additional features that render
them obsolete.

The UI change on firefox 3 is a bit of a shock, but you rapidly grow
to like it.

All in all, I have no substantive issues to report, just nicer /
slicker better.
