Hi, this morning "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" offered a
thunderbird update among other things. Consequently thunderbird failed to load,
so I did a remove, purge, deleted the deb file in /var/cache/apt/archives and
did another sudo apt-get install thunderbird. Still won't start, an entry does
exist on the K menu > Internet (but without an icon). Below are various outputs
which looks on the surface as though thunderbird installed OK. But no...

So, given I just must have my email! I have unpacked a previously downloaded
thunderbird-2.0.0.4.tar.gz and copied to ~/.mozilla-thunderbird where my mail
store is, and run profilemanager to get it looking for mail in the right place,
and the address book etc, and starts up and runs OK except that all attempts to
use the "get mail" button throw up "failed to connect to server
pop.paradise.net.nz". Same with an imap account I connect to, and gmail.
Similar error attempting to send a message "unable to connect to smtp server".

Can anyone suggest how/where to rectify? All the account settings APPEAR
correct...
Cheers,
Roger
