Hi Stuart and Nick, Just to eliminate a possible hardware error, I am going to do a re-install on another box and then see what gives, There is no log for ppp, which confuses me, hence the re-install. As a comment, the modem I am using I have been using for years on other versions of Linux, being various flavours of Ubuntu, and has never given a problem. I will post again when I have set up the hardware.
