David (the second) that's not going to help... its the network card in
the PC that has the problem, not the access point.

Personally I choose to use wired whereever possible.... having a
reliable full duplex 1 Gbit to myself is better than sharing "54" or 150
or 300 Mbit at half duplex with everything else.

However, its all about the chipset support.  If you choose a wireless
card with proper kernel support you'll avoid most problems.

Atheros seems pretty well supported, at least with G cards.  Intel
wireless cards are also excellent in linux.

I'd avoid anything from realtek, the chipsets are cheap and nasty, and
the implementation varies so much across integrators.

IMO wireless is nice to have for cellphones, but not a lot more.
