Thank you all very much for your responses. I learned much from them.
I am satisfied with my first two questions, so I will stick with the
one that is giving me the most trouble --wifi.
On the old desktop computer running Puppy, I am trying to install a
Netgear wifi card and using ndsiwrapper. In the most recent release
of Puppy, there is a procedure for configuring wifi. The Netgear
driver was not Linux, but Windows. So, I guess this is my problem. I
did not know there were specific Linux drivers. I doubt there is a
Linux driver for this. At least I did not seem that option when I
went to Netgear to download drivers.
On the other hand, SUSE Linux 9.2 actually found every device, except
the wifi card, and seemed to install it. I was most impressed by SUSE.
Concerning wifi on my laptop with Centrino. I am reading this can be
a problem. Thanks to the member who sent me a link on Linux and
laptops. I am going to do more investigation.
I do hope I can get away from Windows.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. I will be back with more.
