Because my dead-end job and teenage son don't provide me with
adequate frustration, anger and disappointment, I decided to teach
myself Linux. I was able to download and burn a Ubuntu Feist Fawn CD
which supposedly is one of the easiest distros for newbies to cut
their Linux teeth on. I put my CD in the drive, fire up the machine
and eventually get the following screen:
GRUB version 0.93 (~~~~~)
[ minimal BASH-like line editing is supported...]
grub >
I hit TAB and get a list of commands, none of which makes any sense
to a novice like me. Obviously I don't know the GRUB command syntax.
Is there a tutorial for using GRUB? I am running an old Dell Optiplex
with an Intel Celeron processor, 256MB of RAM. I want to make this an
exclusively Linux machine--no dual boot necessary. I deleted the
partitions before attempting to install Ubuntu so there is no vestige
of Windows left on this machine. I can still boot to an A> prompt
with a Windows boot floppy.
Anyway, I don't want to get too specialized with my questions if this
is not the correct forum. Perhaps there's another group specifically
for Ubuntu.
