Oh well. :) It would have been easier the other way.

I will try to check this later today, but not sure if I'll have a
chance.

Don't worry about it, it's not relevant--I thought the printer might be
plugged into the hub.

That's Ok, we all have to start somewhere.

Rather than using KDE's print management, you can try to attach the
printer with the CUPS web interface.

Open firefox or whatever browser you use on Linux and type

127.0.0.1:631

This will open the cups web interface.

There's an option to add a printer. The second screen (I think)
is device. There's a drop down box--a white box with an arrow at the
right. I believe it's the last choice, but it will read something like
Windows printer SAMBA.

Your Windows machine will have an IP address. You can find that out by
going to the Windows box, hitting start, choosing run and in the little
textbox that opens, type cmd.
That opens a black dos like window. In there type

ipconfig

You'll see something like 192.168.1.101
(The series might be different, but you'll see 4 sets of numbers,
separated by periods.)

Going back to the Linux machine, having chosen Windows printer as the
device, the next screen will show

smb

In the box, you'll add to the smb so that the whole line reads

(in this example, the ipconfig gave 192.168.1.101 and you call the
printer, on the Windows machine, PRINTER

smb://192.168.1.101/PRINTER

(Be sure that you've shared PRINTER on the Windows machine. Also, if
the printer has a name with spaces in it, you're better off changing the
name so it has no spaces.)

After that, the next screens let you choose model and all that good
stuff, pretty much like adding a printer in Windows.

Buffy: Okay, so I battle evil. But I don't really win. The
bad keeps coming back and getting stronger. I'm like that kid in the
story, the boy that stuck his finger in the duck.
Angel: Dike. (Buffy looks at him) It's another word for dam.
Buffy: Oh. Okay, that story makes a lot more sense now.
