  I've tried most of the popular ones and had great luck with Suse 
(although it's now backed by Micro$oft), Ubuntu, Damn Small Linux and 
Fedora.  You might get a copy of The Linux Bible (I believe that's the 
one) which has 6 or 7 different distros included, most of which can be 
run live from the DVD.
