i had been using xine to play my DVD's and one day, it quit. i tried
different things and finally decided to do a re-install of the entire
linux system. i have re-installed mandriva 2007.

i followed the same step-by-step guide that i originally used that i
had found on the internet for getting my system to play DVD's. this
time, however, i ended up with the following error message:

"There is no input plugin available to handle
'dvd:/' Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream
     source doesn't exist"

answers to your obvious questions:
1. this setup is currently playing the non-copy-protected DVD's
just fine. the problem is the copy-protected discs. and,
yes, all DVD's have been legally purchased by me through
     legitimate retail stores.

2. i have the proper libdvdcss file installed (it's the same
one that i originally used with this computer for the
last year or 2 to watch these same DVD's.

3. no hardware has changed on this computer.

4. i have the 2 settings set:
           #ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd
           #hdparm -d1 /dev/cdrom

5. i've also installed the w32codec-0.52-1.i386.rpm (which
was installed on the previous mandriva 2007 install).

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
