This wont work, because LILO isnt ready yet!
pressing shift tells LILO to show a boot prompt, and if u put prompt in ur
lilo.conf, it will not wait for any key-press but just show u the prompt.
Lilo is a Boot Loader, it does not understand filesystems. It relies on the
BIOS to give it /boot/boot.b, the system map file(which is installed when
you run lilo), the kernels and the boot sector(s). Its job is to only load
the selected boot sector.
When LILO loads itself, it does so in stages, and each letter signifies
completion of a stage.
Here, since he's getting only LI, it means the execution of the second stage
boot loader was unsuccessful.
If it stopped at LIL, it means second stage is started but map file has an
error.
Since he's recently installed the system, i think its due to a geometry
mismatch.
U should chk the figures given by ur BIOS, by running DPARAM.COM in DOS, and
running fdisk in linux. this might give ya a clue.
HTH
regards,
kishor
PS: if this is on the first hard disk , run "dparam 0x80" in dos. The 0x80
is the hexadecimal bios code of the first hdd.
