Thanks for your suggestions Trevor. I always log in as user 
[non-root]. But as you know non-root user is not permitted access to
modem. So, I always have to su -  for connecting and then after the
connection is established, exit back to user. I am not much aware about
networking and how people get into other people's machine. So, I think
that if I connect as non-root to the net, I would be more safe. Or is that
wrong thinking. Is giving non-root users access to modem is more risky? I
am asking as I am not sure what is more better.
