To clarify, cracking is specifically the act of breaking into a computer
system. It is the equivalent of breaking and entering someone's house.

Hacking is exploring a system (any system, not limited to computers) to
gain knowledge.

There are times when security needs to be circumvented in order to gain
this knowledge. This is where the line gets blurred. The question is
whether the hacker was within his right to break into the system or not.

In general, the moment to commit a crime, you become a criminal.

Cracking is not an art form. Hacking is. Crackers apply the skills
learnt from hacking to crack into a system. Social skills are a different
matter. A good (I mean proficient) hacker should know how to crack. It
is his moral responsibility to use this knowledge correctly.
