The new computer is here; it Monday night, and I opened it yesterday. I've
found I no longer _need_ Windows; I don't need Citrix Xenserver. I bought the
excellent book "The Book of Xen" at the authors' booth at Scale, and it's
extremely helpful.

I've tried it under Mint Linux (live CD) and it works very well with linux;
even the special buttons all work. Mint told me what kind of wireless card it
has, and offers to install the non-free driver for it. I installed it under
the live CD to test, and it works fine. Even the sound is perfect; that's
often been problematic under linux.

The only problem is no lights on the full-size keyboard (with numeric keypad);
not even capslock.

It'll make a great linux desktop replacement if I decide to use it for that.
Or I can return it (for only the cost of shipping; I've already checked). The
biggest problem is that with my touch of arthritis I'm not sure I can
comfortably use any non-curved keyboard for any length of time.

And since I have the Windows license I will install it, so I can use it to
watch video/tv/netflix, even when copy protected (as netflix is) on my TV (it
does have hdmi out).

So in the next two days or so I'll decide whether or not I'm going to keep it.

And if I have it by then I'll bring it to the next meeting so everyone can see
if I got a psychodelic case or not <smile>.
