You might consider getting a Lenovo laptop on ebay. According to some
users on this LUG, Lenovo is Linux friendly. I don't know if Lenovo is
continuing to support LInux. There are some that are still in the box
unopened with 1 year warranty on ebay. Try to get one that comes with
windows 7 restore DVD. If it doesn't have a DVD, the windows7
installed OS will allow you to make a recovery disk. (It may require
the professional or premium version to be able to burn a recovery DVD,
otherwise they will always let you burn cd's, but it takes about a
dozen cds <PITA>).  Also, if it doesn't have a restore disk, you
should be able to order one from Lenovo for about $14.00. You can
install the VPS, and you should be able to run 7 inside of that, or
you could do a dual boot. Here is a couple ebay pages with Lenovo
