I'm replying to my own thread to cap it off for now. Yesterday at the Los Angeles Computer Fair, I purchased a Dell reinstall Windows 7 disk (media only) for us$25.00. I also purchased a 40G replacement hard drive for $20. So now I can install Windows under Linux, once I've bought the laptop, as a trial, and if for some reason it won't work, I can replace the original hard disk and return the laptop. I'll report later as I move forward.
