No matter. To the user, that's Linux. And all your objections seem pretty non-objectionable to me, when seen from the point of view of the more naive Windows user. > Many times you get a > bitch-a-thon from some jaded Window$ admin who's first failed Linux > experience has lead them to discover that Linux sucks and that FOSS > software is a GIANT fail. In my case it's a guy who's been running Unix, including servers and the early x desktops since the 80s, and Linux desktops and servers since '95. And no MSWindows at all for about four years now. Previously I created one of the first TRS-80 aftermarket software companies, writing and marketing software which even in the days of 48k systems with 5MB drives helped make businesses more efficient than they otherwise were. While my Linux desktop expectations have been the same for a long time now (a complete desktop experience that just works), I find the Linux-based desktops have been going backwards. I KDE desktop that in my case starting causing niggling problems I never had before, a few days ago after nothing but one of those Kubuntu security upgrades popped up on my screen broke KAlarm and Firefox. Reinstalling both almost worked; now only a few annoyances remain. I certainly understand why people with less tolerance than I have, go back to MS Windows. And so agree with the subject line of the thread entirely. I don't go back to Windows; a recent trial run failed miserably (it wouldn't even install on the Dell laptop delivered to my home), and even after a service droid came to my home to fix it for free, he only installed a generic copy of the OS (which he didn't leave me), which didn't include the drivers. I managed to get one driver installed by calling Dell, and then gave up and decided to return it because I didn't even know how many other drivers were missing that I wouldn't find out about until it was too late to return it. People who don't have that experience, or who do, and don't think, won't know, and will consider Windows their best choice. And I don't go forward to Apple because though I might have a few months ago I now believe that the company is moving towards a complete 'store' model and that in the future it will be difficult to do what you really want to do; even more so than with Windows. Neither of these situations cause me to disagree with the subject matter of this thread. And I haven't even read the article yet.
