Thanks.  I did just now finish installing it a different way; I downloaded it 
and used dpkg.  The average user (referred to in the original post) would 
never have figured it out.  Which is my point.

I use kubuntu only on the desktop, as far as I know I have non-free installed, 
and in fact I downloaded it with kpackagekit, but kpackagekit wouldn't install 
it.
