I think I mentioned it before: I talked to a shop owner in Hong Kong and they told me the HK Bandai wholesaler use "block booking" (in cinema terms) to sell its kits, if you are getting certain "hot" kits you got to get some "cold" kits as well. So it's the retailers who's paying. And that's why in HK market the old kits price can fluturate a lot.
You're kidding me right? I believe HK is (still?) the second largest Bandai model market.

That's an unhealthy sign. Bandai may copy Apple's tight control on
media leaks, but they just let street prices slide after 2 months?
The killer is that hot kits don't see the price rises, but cold kits
are dumped at bargain price. Somewhere along the supply chain someone
must be absorbing the punishment.

Perhaps HK is so small it flies under the radar? That still doesn't
make sense, any business, no matter how big or small, can't sustain
consistent losses. E.g. US retail chains took losses to clear the
HG/MG kits and never touched Gundam kits again.

Or perhaps 2.0 has a lower wholesale price than regular new kits? It
seems natural that recolors, Ver. Ka.s and 1.5/2.0s have lower
development cost so does Bandai offers a better wholesale price on
these? My experience in poking around sometime ago was that "No".
Bandai offers discount rates based on order size, not on what models
are ordered. Of course I never managed to get a quote from Bandai,
only the middlemen (e.g. HLJ), actually more often middlemen to the
middleman.
So somewhere near the retailer's end some people are absorbing losses
in order for cold kits to clear the warehouse.
