That's not quite true.  MS will not release a HD-DVD you can "Swap" in because it would void your warrenty to do so.  Instead, they said that they might possible release an external unit...maybe.  They have stated that no games for 360 will ever us a HD-DVD because they cannot guarentee everyone will have one.

Given that the DVD player in the 360 sucks, don't hold out hope of it being a capable HD-DVD player.

In the end, I think Sony's plan to bundle BlueRay with PS3 will give a substancial boost to BlueRay.  That, plus the fact that it has the backing of the majority of the movie studios.  I highly doubt any games will take advantage of the 50GB it offers though.

Given the Gundam FPS is being developed in Japan, I will be very surprised if the game is not ported to the PS3.

Xbox 360... ehh... I am not a huge Sony fan, but I agree with Sony
that MS jumped the gun on 360, it's just 1st gen Xbox with HD output
isn't it?  Xbox 360 can not play HD-DVD right?  Could there be a
firmware upgrade that enables it in the future?  Of course by the time
PS3 comes out, Blu-ray may be dead...

Actually the Xbox 360 is a lot more advanced than the original Xbox.  I
don't remember all of the exact specs off the top of my head, but I know
that it is primarily focused on sheer processing power.  While they do hae
wireless controllers, they are not using the Bluetooth technology that the
PS3 is supposed to use.  As far as components, it is designed to be more
modular so that components can be upgraded in the future without having to
buy a whole new box.  It currently doesn't have the HD-DVD because Microsoft
is waiting for the standard to be finalized.  Once a standard is reached,
they will release the appropriate HD-DVD that can swap out the one currently
in the 360.

Sony, on the other hand, is trying to force acceptance of Blu-Ray by making
it the standard for the PS3.  If that ends up not becoming the standard,
than the PS3 ends up going the way of the Betamax VCR.

I think the Xbox 360 is a fine unit.  As far as the PS3 I will reserve
judgment until it becomes something more than vaporware.
