I agree with you, but Bumblebee is practically a shoe-in for main character due
to name recognition. Probably the only Autobot that would be as recognized is
Optimus - and I think there would be a fan revolt if he were turned into a
Camero.

:P

I think it's safe to say that the problem is the result of the popularity of
the Transformers way back when. There were just too many of them. You end up
seeing a particular transformer for about five minutes during an episode, and
then never seeing it again. A good example of this is Blur in the old movie,
who shows up during the sequences on Earth, and then iirc is never seen again
once the story leaves Earth behind. And that leaves just the primary
characters as distinctive standouts, of which there were about 2-3 on each side.

There was the occasional character with distinctive dialogue, of course, but
the one that most readily comes to mind might have a hard time hiding in plain
sight...

"Me Grimlock!"

I will grant, however, that you could probably make a serious argument for Jazz
as the main transformer instead of Bumblebee-as-Camero.

Good to hear. The old voice is just so much a part of his character that
hearing anything else (such as the current voice on the TV show) is almost
disturbing.
