I always thought that Han Solo when you first meet him
is far from a Hero. First off he is a Smugglar, and he
smuggled spice? Which I take as a term that he was a
drug/gun running for Jabba.

He was a rogue character at first, that was caught in
a situation that was bigger than him and had to team
with his passangers to get free. Plus up to the end of
the movie his motivation was only to save himself.

Shoting Greebo first established Han as a pure
survivalist, and Greebo was going to shoot him for
Jabba. Makes sense that Han would shoot first giving
his look out for himself character trait.

Han didn't really establish himself as a Hero until
the end of the movie when he destroied Vadar's
escorts. So in many ways he had the classic rogue to
hero path.
