Well, the problem with a lot od SEED designs is that they're, for
lack of a better term, busy. It's the sort of thing Wing or G could
get away with given the premise of each respective series, but that
falls flat in SEED's environment. So, the charge of being
superfluous, out of place, busy, or whatever makes perfect sense
there. But the Dogas and the Kaempfer are the very essence of
practicality, and they embrace that role without (IMO) sacrificing
Zeon aesthetics.
I can understand disliking the push toward making MS designs more
"realistic", particularly when it comes to retrocons, but what
confounds me in this case is the fact that Minh is a huge fan of
Katoki (who basically pioneered the movement). Liking Katoki's work
and disliking the Dogas/Kaempfer is just utterly non-sensical to me
(which should not be taken as a criticism; like I said, he's free to
dislike whatever he likes, and he doesn't have to justify his
opinions to me or anyone. They just confound me, is all).
