I haven't really paid much attention to the word, although I know it's a Latin root.

The problem is that the context that I got out of it was that "Dominic"referred to an organization of some sort, almost certainly religious in nature.  And the dialogue that I saw implied some sort of "kill or drive out everyone who isn't Dominic" idea.  Unless you want to argue that the group behind the mobile suits was the Dominican Monks (which is what the word pulled up to my mind - not that I think they had anything to do with it), there's not really much to work with.

It might have been a group of radical genocidal Christians.  But even that doesn't really tell us much within the context of the story except that there's still religious fighting going on (which really doesn't really on knowing whether the group is Christian or something else).  We don't know how powerful this Dominic group was (Dominic and its opponent(s) might have been evenly matched, or Dominic might have been sweeping its opponent(s) away when the Gundam intervened), or whether it still exists.  Those are primarily the two items that I'm interested in right now.  All we've really got is a name.

Are you really serious? The word is Latin, not Arabic. Are you
telling me all this time you were thinking Dominic was Islamic? I
mean, it's not easy to make the ep.1 scene even more explicit. It's
also pretty pointed to choose A.D. over C.E., U.C. and even to
un-abbreviate it as Anno Domino. Google "Anno Domino" you get

Anno Domini (Latin: (In) The year of (Our) Lord), abbreviated as AD or
A.D., defines an epoch based on the traditionally reckoned year of the
conception (Annunciation) or birth of Jesus of Nazareth.
- Wikipedia

The root of Dominic is "Lord" which also gave us words like domination
and dominion, and may be modernized/urbanized as "owned". Also in
Engrish: all you base are belonged to us.
