The left number *is* the result of time(). It is the result at some time
in the past. :-)

Dan's description of Maildir is declarative, not prescriptive. It's also 
pragmatic - intended to achieve a result. I have no reason to believe that 
it was intended to be a "standard" that one conformed with or not.

What matters to me is how well it functions to meet my needs. YMMV.
