Perhaps I put that too bluntly for you to understand what I meant so I shall elaborate.
If *your* objective is happy users and for *your* users to be happy they need
bug-compatible interoperability with Outlook, then you are going about that objective
all wrong, furthermore I respectfully submit that arguments for Binc to behave in a
certain way must be well reasoned and/or backed up with patches.
I claim that any suggestion that introduces a race condition, however improbable,
especially when it goes against a well defined specification, for whatever reason, let
alone poorly conforming clients, falls far short of what I consider to be 'well
reasoned' arguments for change.
If, on the other hand, your objective is a stable, fast, flexible and standards
compliant IMAP server, then you are in the right place.
Ultimately, the best server to take advantage of the unique features built into
Outlook is now and will probably always be Exchange. Therefore, I once again, suggest
that if such is your goal, you are doing both your users and your employer a
disservice by attempting to foist an IMAP server on them when they wish something else.
Regardles, with the wonders of the GPL, we are all free to fork and release our own
version with all the particular features, misfeatures and benefits we feel Binc ought
to have. Users either will or will not use it. One's willingness to do so is simply
a reflection of how closely our desires align with those of the developers/maintainers.
All that having been said, I should mention that I'm presuming that the objectives of
Binc remains the original ones of stabilty, speed, flexibility and conformance.
Is that light enough?
C=)
P.S. My apologies to the list.
