My rear drive is 37/11.

Yes I decided on direct drive. But I may be relearning the adage:

"It's not what you don't know, it's what you know that ain't so."

I assumed that top gear in the transmission was 1:1, but it's actually 1.5:1, so instead of a theoretical top speed of 45 or so (fine for my needs), it's now 70 something. Which is all well and good, except now I worry it's going to be hurting at low speeds. If I need the reduction, I may be looking for a transmission, since even if I leave it in one gear, it's probably easier than cobbling up my own gear reducer. Or get a lower rev motor. Of course it's all moot until I actually get something working; which I hope is soon.

Steve on the beemer I think you have selected direct drive? Your motor
I recall is physically fairly big. If you were to go to a pancake
motor I think there maybe enough room to offset the motor so you could
use a sprocket on the shafts and change sprocket sizes to get the 6:1
final ratio.

I was thinking of doing a BMW since I ride an R1100RT back before I
found the VF500, I was thinking retaining the transmission and putting
the pancake motor on the top of the trans and feeding the trans input
shaft via chain, retaining the trans-shaft, etc. What is the ratio on
the drive?
