Yes - you're not the only one who has been caught out by this. Brian Harry has a nice writeup on what you should've/could've done, and MS are well aware of it. "This has been constant source of confusion (and embarrassment for us)." http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry/archive/2006/10/04/Last-word-on-TFS-Expirations-_2800_I-hope_2900_.aspx

Close call!! :) Whoa :) Got to work this morning and found out that our TFS had expired! I swear i checked to see when the expiry was due ... and i thought it was upgrade when we purchased the keys/cals. I know we have a key (and a huge bucket of CALS) so I wasn't stressing ... until the IT dept couldn't find they key! Er -- WTF? On some EOpen website they were showing me, it lists all the products and the keys etc but for TFS there was nothing! (ie. this product doesn't have a volume license key or something geeky like that ... i'm so glad i don't need the degree required to handle licesning). Now I was starting to worry (just a tiny bit) because i was thinking it would take some time to ring the suppliers and get the key for the server. In the mean time i'm already starting to think of plan B, C, D, etc.. It's not good when you have 20+ developers starting to get restless :( So i tried one last thing before I started raising the issue from embarassing to serious -> run the TFS install and see if the key is 'grey'd out' in the setup wizard before it starts doing the main main main install. I've noticed this with other products i've recieved from MSDN before. Yep it was and yes it worked when i upgraded our TFS from (i'm guessing) RTM 1.0 -> whatever the physical CD/DVD the IT guys purchased. Close call and now 20+ happen developers once again. Can't. Live. Without. Tfs. :) ________________________________ <https://owa.readify.net/exchange/Grant.Holliday/Drafts/RE:%20[OzTFS]%20Whoa!%20Close%20call!!%20:).EML/1_multipart/StargateGroup-Logo.GIF> Justin Adler Senior Developer Stargate Group Level 4, 600 Victoria Street Richmond Victoria 3121 Telephone: 03 8420 3009 Facsimile: 03 9428 1533 www.stargatetech.com.au <http://www.stargategroup.com.au/> This message contains confidential information and is intended only for the individual named.
