You still need to CAL for the portal though right? (was always my
understanding).

Also bear in mind the licensing restrictions, i.e. the requirement that by
opening up TFS to your customers you will require a CAL for them (or an
external connector license)

Project portal gives read-only view on work items etc, TFS Web Access (aka
TeamPlain) gives full CRUD of the work items.

TeamPlain is more like a web-based version of Team Explorer. I'd recommend
using TeamPlain provided it won't expose any information they shouldn't have
(i.e. for other customers).

Subject: [OzTFS] Team Plain vs TFS Project Portal (SharePoint)

Hi everyone,

We are planning to give a demo project to one of our client.
The idea is to show the client that they can also participate/collaborate in
the project (i.e.. upload document, viewing work items, any high level stuff,
etc)

Can someone shed some light regarding the pros & cons between Team Plain and
TFS Project Portal?

I am currently playing with Team Plain and found it a bit cumbersome in terms
of setting the security.
It seems there are few overlapping with TFS, SharePoint and Team Plain in term
of security.

I think I miss something there, can someone please advice?

Regards,

Eka
