Especially regarding the licensing.

My understanding too, but I did hear some talk that if you removed
access to the Reports from the project portal then you could argue you
didn't (because you are no longer getting the "benefit of automation
with TFS"). However the usefulness of the portal then is questionable.

My licensing caveat was a general one when exposing TFS to your
customers. While it is perfectly possible technically, often it fails
due to a cost justification with the way the current licensing
arrangements work. Many folks are not aware of the licensing
implications when they first think about this approach...

You still need to CAL for the portal though right? (was always my
understanding).

Also bear in mind the licensing restrictions, i.e. the requirement that
by opening up TFS to your customers you will require a CAL for them (or
an external connector license)

Project portal gives read-only view on work items etc, TFS Web Access
(aka TeamPlain) gives full CRUD of the work items.

TeamPlain is more like a web-based version of Team Explorer. I'd
recommend using TeamPlain provided it won't expose any information they
shouldn't have (i.e. for other customers).

Subject: [OzTFS] Team Plain vs TFS Project Portal (SharePoint)

Hi everyone,

We are planning to give a demo project to one of our client.

The idea is to show the client that they can also
participate/collaborate in the project (i.e.. upload document, viewing
work items, any high level stuff, etc)

Can someone shed some light regarding the pros & cons between Team Plain
and TFS Project Portal?

I am currently playing with Team Plain and found it a bit cumbersome in
terms of setting the security.

It seems there are few overlapping with TFS, SharePoint and Team Plain
in term of security.

I think I miss something there, can someone please advice?

Regards,

Eka
