Here's one for the upper middle grades: Bronx Masquerade (author,
Grimes?).

We include it in our Battle of the Books for ninth graders. It's a
story about an inner city English class and the poetry they write and
eventually thrive upon to both cope with and share their day-to-day
challenges.

Hi!

There's "The Landry News" by Andrew Clements, about how a 5th grade
journalist pushes a burned-out teacher to turn his classroom into a
place
where genuine learning (throgh writing a class newspaper) actually
happens. It's pretty good, as is "The School Story," same author, about
a
middle school girl who decides to get published.

Take care,
