Subject: Re: [Liveaboard] Winter sailing heat / low amp draw circulating fan

Bob,

I'm from here so I don't take winter too personally, I like how cozy
the boat
is this time of year. A glowing fire and a hot scotch make for a good
evening.
But I admit by Feb I'm sick of it all. This year has been darn cold *
but NOT down
below!
I lived down south for years (New Orleans) but never found the boating
scene
(yachting life?) palatable in southern climes. Not very salty or laid
back. I don;t
mean to raise hackles, this is just my experience and it's limited.
I'd like to find
a nice spot in the south. But I don't like a lot of other boats around
me and I can't
stand the modern world (developments, shopping malls etc,,)

Where are the cool places to live aboard in warmer climes? I'm sure
there are some great
ones somewhere. I love the south but not Jacksonville or Atlanta. I'd
rather have my arse
froze to my bunk in a seamanlike town with low key people around than
be in tee shirt weather
surrounded by yachty types!

I'm from Cape Cod originally and I even get the hives when I sail down
there (at times).
My inclination is in the other direction, Nova Scotia. Friendly, less
rules and cops!

OK I'm a contrarian and a kermudgeon!

Can I also ask any tips on sailing this time of year. We will just go
out on the bay near land but
will anchor out (weather permitting). I plan to tow an inflatable with
ditch bag with GPS and VHF.
Wear PFD on deck and be very careful. But in general, any "watch outs"
to consider??

many thanks seafolk,
