Along the same lines as the original question but on a slight tangent: What kinds of food can one store and in what manner for "emergency" or "survival" food? I know a few 20 pound bags of rice and/or beans is a good start, but what else can potentially last for years in the environment of a boat? I've always considered my boat as a small "escape capsule" for the latenight a.m. radio advertised pending gloom and doom, so I want to at least have some supplies onboard in the event that I might want to get away for an extended period. A water maker is on my list for summer projects, as well as fishing gear.
