They do normally have a support plan that lasts a few years after they
stop selling it. The big thing is when will they stop putting out
security patches and updates for XP? It won't be anytime soon because
my company won't be ready to go for a while and we are a big customer.
We aren't even on Office 2007 yet and it will probably be another year
before we make that move.

I will ask the MS guy tomorrow and see what his story is.

Subject: [Liveaboard] XP and Vista question

This site indicates that Home Edition will extent into 2010, bu the rest
will end on 6/30/2008.

I don't think the fact that XP is no longer available means that it is
not suppoerted. You just won't be able to buy a new XP system, although
I'm sure corporations will still be installing it on new hardware under
license.

I have an older Dell with XP and a new dell with Vista. I've been happy
with both. No trouble at all with Vista. I know there have been a lot
of negative reports on Vista, but I don't have any.

The corporate world won't be ready to convert to Vista for 2 to 3 years,
so I doubt support of XP is likely to be tropped before that.

Do you guys have any good information regarding the end of XP
Pro
availability? I am being told that as of the end of June, XP Pro
will
no longer be available and we will be forced to Vista. Any info
would
be greatly appreciated. Since this will quickly digress outside
liveaboard focus, please email me off list at [EMAIL PROTECTED],
thanks.
