-----Original Message----- April 29, 2008 Concerned that customers are confusing the impending end of Windows XP retail availability with the end of support, Microsoft Corp. has reminded users that the aged operating system will be supported until early April 2014.
REPLY I suspect this will trigger increased sales of grey market copies of XP. Not everybody want or needs a wide screen, Outside of very affluent countries there is considerable pressure to retain the familiar 3 X 4 screen format Consider that almost all point of sales terminals use a Windows based program that uses this 3X4 format and you begin to see the issue. People are not going to be happy being forced to replace perfectly good working specialty programs just because Microsoft wants to cater to a small minority of the population that wants to use their computer as a TV screen for entertainment. Nor will they see a need to change to Vista to run a cash register or machine controller or whatever. Any business that already has existing terminals and wants to add more will not be happy if told they have to scrap the existing and change over to a VISTA based "new and improved" software package that does the exact same thing as the old. cheers Arild
