Can't give you details, as I run Linux, but on another list (I think
the thinkpad list) there has been a discussion recently on a buggy
service pack that has caused problems for some people, so maybe
this is the first place to look. One person said that he never installs
a service pack until a few months have passed, this way, MS can fix
the crap they put out before it affects him.

Of course, my advice is to use Linux instead, but I don't want
this to degenerate into the OS religious war. Still, if you're
interested in the possibilities, check http://www.debian.org
