Here's what I did.
I mounted the tuner inside near the backstay. Since the chainplate
goes through the deck, I attached the hot side of the tuner directly
to the chainplate, under a bolt. Since the antenna starts there, it
didn't make any difference compared to running another wire and making
another hole. I put a shroud protector over the backstay to help
protect those who might grab on! No different than running a wire
along the backstay. It also eliminated one insulator.  I have had this
setup for 4 years now, works great. I use the radio (Ham) every day.
