Marilyn and I had a Lavac on our Tri. Lived aboard and cruised for 12 years
without incident. We found it to be a extremely reliable piece of gear.
As for water use and small holding tanks. We did not find it an issue with
our 18 gallon holding tank.
As I recall, the Lavac was very highly rated by SCCA members.
I purchased another Lavac to install on Oryoki and I reasonably expect to
see over a decade of trouble free service.

However, I have heard some less than glowing reports about the Lavac some
time ago but I cannot recall the details.
