I have a condo and a boat here on the northeastern tip of Puert Rico
(Fajardo Bay),
and since it is a US Territory the currency is the US dollar and the natives
have
blue passports. We also drive on the right side of the road ;)
If you want to check the panoramic view (it's 1.8 MB):

There are two West Marine stores on the island, many small marine stores,
and for buying the odds and ends hardware you can go to Home Depot;
also, a Best Buy is about ready to open their first store, yeah!
If you walk into a Walgreens you get that deja vu feeling it's so similar.
Cost of living is about the same as on the mainland, except that I have no
heater or air conditioner and my budget for clothing is minimal, since temps
for the year
range from about 68 on a cold winter night to about 91 on the hottest summer
day -
check out weather.com and use zip code 00738.
There are more hurricanes in Florida or on the Gulf Coast then here, we have
been
fortunate, the last one was Georges (1998).

Subject: [Liveaboard] Countries near the US

I've given a lot of thought to countries near the US, because I expect to be
dependant to a degree on medicare for health insurance. My first choice, if
I were to stay in one place would be the BVI (British Virging islands).
They are close enough to the USVI and Puerto Rico to make it practical to go
there for medical attention. The BVI is more expensive than The Dominican
Republic, but also more peacefull.

Another major concern for me is hurricane season, when it is better to be
far to the south. I'm thinking that it would be best to spend huricane
season in the south and the other months in the north. In either case one
can live without heat or A/C, with fair winds, usually calm waters, and a
minimum requirement for electric energy.
