Arild,

You may want to get an Apricorn external USB hard drive to periodically make
a "clone" of your good drive. You can do this after initial installation of
your XP, Office, and antivirus software.

You buy a laptop drive compatible with your new laptop. Apricorn supplies a
UNIX-based CD which you boot from. This works as slick as owl .... . I've
done it.

I have changed drives in XP Pro and not had this problem. Yours must be a
newer version. Have you tried the freeware "Avast!"? It is an excellent
antivirus program which often updates daily. It has a great feature which
allows you to choose to run the program upon boot in DOS. This often catches
things missed from within Windows. Set the program to delete and viruses
found. This is a slow, but thorough process.
