Andros IslandsThe problem with sailing over is that you need a weather window.
There is a 4 day weather cycle, so usually you get a window every 4/8 days, but
sometimes not for a month. When the wind blows from the north at more than 10
kts, which it does about 80% of the time in the winter, you cannot cross the
Gulf Stream. There are several anchorages at Fresh Creek and Morgan's Bluff and
there is a ferry from Nassau, the Sea Link, a ~20 knot catamaran ferry. Check
the schedule, I don't think it is every day.

Subject: [Liveaboard] Andros Islands
Anybody have any knowledge about Andros Islands in the Bahamas? My band got
asked to play a new years eve gig there and there isn't enough transportation
and rooms available for everyone to go. I could sail over and just stay on the
boat but I have never done any ocean sailing and if something happens then I
don't make the gig and that wouldn't be good. I was thinking of doing the
discovery cruise over and back since that is $99 a person each way and seems
cheaper than airfare. I think I could also get away with bringing more gear
that way. I would then have to get from Grand Bahama over to Andros and find a
cheap place to stay either on Andros or Grand Bahama.
Any other suggestions? Anyone planning to sail over that way around that
time that would want to take 2 people or sail over at the same time as me so I
have a flotilla going?
Thanks,
Vern
