We've always tried to go with the Gulf Stream both ways. I figured it would be
easier to go south along the coast of FL if the Gulf Stream carried us too far
north. Most of the time go from Miami or Rodriguez Key to Bimini, and coming
back I'm leaving from Lucaya, Grand Bahama. If it is good weather, we generally
hit the Florida coast around Ft. Lauderdale and then run down along the coast
from there.

Once we left from West End in kind of nasty rainy weather, and there was a quite
strong south east wind (good) of 25 knots, and waves were coming from the
quarter and breaking under the boat. At one point we were doing better than
12 knots, but we had to turn off the depth alarm because the waves breaking
under the boat was setting it off. We made it from West End to Ft. Pierce in
13 hours (92 miles).

The large freighters were not so much of a problem or the 'real' cruise ships.
Both of those ships have a destination and head for it, but the gambling ships
were something else. They go out and hover outside the 12 mile limit. Bob
decided the best way to deal with them was to head right for them. Then they go
away, because they don't really have a destination, and they circle around out
there.

The big problem off the coast of FL is small unlighted fishing boats.
