Skip,

Very nice report, especially the balancing procedure. I will add it to my
database.

I too, balanced my spinners very carefully and they were smooth enough but
the tail still wiggles a bit a some speeds. I have always felt they should
have a stiffening spine in the tail.

After a number of years I had to repaint the blades because bare fiberglass
was showing so I took the lead tape off and balanced the rotors by shaving
material off the tips with a belt sander until I got a perfect balance.
Perhaps the lead tape added weight that made the spinner turn more smoothly.

They spin smoothly it seems to me, but "smooth" is a matter of personal
taste without some sort of meter.

My biggest problem is the azimuth bearing. The stock bearing is a piece of
plastic and it made for a lot of rattle no matter which PVC adapter I used.
I eventually made, at great expense, parts to use boat trailer roller
bearings (the cheapest bearings I could find) for azimuth bearings. It is
quiet now on the starboard side but the port still is a bit noisy at some
speeds..
